About GIPS Developer Community

Q: What is the Global IP Solutions (GIPS) Developers Community?
A:  The GIPS Developer Community is an online community where developers can gain access to the best media processing technology available. With this technology, they can develop new, exciting VoIP applications for non-commercial use. The community also offers support from other members through the Developer Forum section.

Q: Who is Global IP Solutions?
A:
In 1999, Dr. Roar Hagen and Professor Bastiaan Kleijn founded Global IP Sound (GIPS).  In January 2007, GIPS changed its name to Global IP Solutions (GIPS) to reflect the expansion and broadening of its market position, including new multi-media technology.  GIPS develops embedded multimedia processing technologies for real-time communications over packet networks. GIPS provides best-in-class voice & video quality and fidelity in end-to-end IP communications with robustness against packet loss. CableLabs and the IETF  designated the GIPS codec, iLBC, as an industry standard.

Our solutions are divided into application solutions, media engines and components. GIPS' world-renowned media processing and IP telephony experts deliver these solutions to service providers, enterprises, applications developers, network equipment, gateway and chip manufacturers. Companies using GIPS products include Nortel, Skype, WebEx, Yahoo!, AOL, EarthLink, BlueCross/BlueShield and other key players in the VoIP market. In addition, GIPS is partnered with Cisco, Avaya and 3COM to offer targeted enterprise market solutions.

You can learn more about GIPS and a few of our customers, such as Yahoo and V2 Tech, and DeltaThree by reading Case Studies here.

GIPS is a member of the Intel® PCA Developer Network, the Motorola Design Alliance, Symbian Platinum Partners and Texas Instruments’ third party developer network.

GIPS has headquarters in San Francisco and offices in Stockholm, Hong Kong, Santa Barbra, and Boston. More information is available at http://www.gipscorp.com/.

Q:  Why was the GIPS Developer Community started?
A:
GIPS often receives inquiries from individuals that have interesting ideas but are not sure if the idea will fly technically or commercially and therefore have no initial intention of commercially licensing our software. The GIPS Developer Community was established to give these developers an easy start down the path toward developing their own applications. Whether you are a student, hobbyist, or start-up company, the Developer Community will provide you with the tools you need to build a unique VoIP solution.

Q:  How do I apply for the Premium Membership?
A:
Once you are a Basic Member you can apply for the Premium Membership by clicking on the Premium Membership link. The Premium Membership will grant you access to more software libraries as well as a direct contact within GIPS. Therefore to be approved a GIPS representative will first contact you by phone or email to establish the connection and to provide you with the understanding of the GIPS software on the developer community as well as the commercial versions of the GIPS software solution.

Q: What is not permitted by the Community?

A:  While GIPS offers developers the ability to build VoIP applications, it does not give developers the right to commercially deploy their applications. If you have built an application that you would like to offer for commercial use or if you are interested in partnering with GIPS, please contact Global IP Solutions for licensing partner information.
Other illegal or anti competitive behavior is not permitted. For further information, please consult the
Legal section.

Q: What can GIPS Developer Forum provide?
A: The Developer Forum provides an online bulletin board for Community Members to get help with their projects, discuss their applications, or just chat about VoIP and other cool technology.
